Jersey Shore Summer 2012: Beach Guide

Everything you need to know about visiting the Jersey Shore this summer.

Wondering how much beach tags will cost this year? Where to park? If you can bring your dog? We've got the skinny on your day trips for the rest of the summer right here. Ocean City "America's Greatest Family Resort" features eight miles of beaches and a boardwalk packed with shops and amusements. Discounted seasonal beach tags are $20 before May 31; the price goes up to $25 June 1. Weekly beach tags are $10, daily beach tags cost $5. Beach tags are required for visitors 12 and older from June 9 to Sept. 3, 2012.  Avalon "Cooler by a mile," its beautiful, natural coastline is handicap-accessible with tennis courts and boat ramps. Essential Take-Along for Days at the Shore

Even if you’ve been heading to the South Jersey shore since the Ocean City carousel was the high point of your visit, this time take along a copy of Jen A. Miller’s newest book: The Jersey Shore: Atlantic City to Cape May. As you page through it and look at the color photos—many of them vintage—you’ll say repeatedly: I didn’t know that! Miller, 30, a graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School who now lives in Collingswood, is the Coppertone model all grown up. Even when she’s wearing strappy sandals and a dress, you know she’d rather be sitting in a low chair with her feet in the surf.
