Checking in with Amanda McGrory, U.S. Paralympian

McGrory is hoping to compete for gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games this summer.

Amanda McGrory, of Kennett Square, PA, was just five years old when she was diagnosed with a rare disease called transverse myelitis that left her paralyzed from the waist down. But that didn't stop Amanda from becoming a speed demon and by age 10 she started racing with her wheelchair in the hope of becoming a Paralympian. Amanda has become one of the fastest wheelchair marathoners in the world. At the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, Amanda won the gold medal for the 5,000-meter race, a silver medal for the marathon, bronze for the 800-meter race and bronze for the women's 4x100 meter relay. Rain Washes Out Several HMHS Games

The weather leads to five postponements, so far.

Five Haddonfield Memorial High School sporting events have been rained out today, including baseball, softball, girls' lacrosse and tennis. Varsity and jv baseball is also cancelled for Friday.

SJ 10-Year-Old Makes Her Mark at Broad Street Run

Allie Hauer was one of the youngest runners to finish the 2012 Broad Street Run in Philadelphia.

Allie Hauer cruised across the finish line at the Broad Street Run in Philadelphia on Sunday, holding her mother's hand.  Mother and daughter finished the 10-mile race in 1:47:45. Allie, 10, was among the youngest of 34,012 finishers, according to official race results.  "She wouldn't stop, she wouldn't slow down," Erika Hauer, 36, said of her daughter. "She could have kept going after that." Allie, who turned 10 on April 29, said her favorite part of the race was seeing the mass of runners gathered at the starting line of the nation's largest 10-mile run.  Along the race course, people cheered on the young dynamo, and sang "Happy Birthday" to Allie as she ran past, her mother said.  (Allie and her mom wore matching pink T-shirts that said…

Viewfinder: West Deptford vs. Haddonfield Softball

The two teams played for a cause Wednesday night.

West Deptford's Marissa Linquist crushed a three-run home run and the team jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings, as the Eagles beat Haddonfield, 10-2, in a pink-and-black-themed game that raised money and awareness for breast cancer research. Linquist and Sydney Ponto combined on the mound for the win, which puts the Eagles at 11-4 on the season.

Bulldawgs Win Gold at Cooper Cup

Haddonfield High School Crew competed in two regattas last weekend at Cooper River, winning two gold medals on Sunday. On Sunday Haddonfield had a great day at the Cooper Cup racing six boats against competition from 63 schools and clubs. The Haddonfield Women's Novice 4 won a gold medal finishing first in their race. On the boat were Mari Danella-Mercanti, Emily Stasi, Emily Deluzio, Allison Sparrow and coxswain Lisa Kommedal. In a great battle all the way down the courses, the Men’s JV 8 of Christian Dobush, Nick Ruggeiro, Jonathan Dye, Nick Gangemi, Tom Kelly, Louis Epstein, Patrick Gilmartin, Paul Hurd and Cami Dews (coxswain) finished first and won the Gold Medal.  On Saturday, Haddonfield had seven boats competing at the Garden State…

Grace Baccare rounded up gently used prom dresses for the needy.

Name: Grace Baccare School: Haddonfield Memorial High School Accomplishment: Grace launched a campaign to round up gently used prom dresses around Haddonfield to give to girls in Gloucester City. She collected and distributed 30 dresses to girls who needed them. Key to Awesomeness: "Girls in Haddonfield are so fortunate and lucky to go to proms and dress up and I really felt that all girls should have the opportunity to go to proms and dress up," Grace said. "I really felt strongly about this kind of community service." Gloucester City is an Abbott District, one of 31 in New Jersey that are among the poorest in the state. Viewfinder: Haddonfield Drops West Deptford Girls' Lacrosse

The Bulldawgs pulled it together in the second half in a 16-12 win over the Eagles.

A 6-5 halftime deficit turned into a 14-8 lead for Haddonfield, as the Bulldawgs girls' lacrosse team went on to beat West Deptford, 16-12, at home Saturday. Carolynn Clark scored to put Haddonfield ahead for the first time in the second half, and the Bulldawgs ripped off seven unanswered goals to ice things against the Eagles. Clark, Maddie Kiep, Laurel Falana and Taylor Ng all had had tricks for Haddonfield, and Gretchen Kiep scored four goals and had two assists on the day. West Deptford was paced by Rachel Krott's five goals, while Paige Paratore, Emily Whalin and Gabby Minnite all had two goals each.
