Why Go: There’s nothing quite like a hot bowl of soup to stave off the cold doldrums of winter. This benefit for the church's ministries will feature homemade beef vegetable soup, rolls, non-alcoholic drinks and homemade desserts. Jazz Concert, Friday, Medford Arts Center, 18 N. Main St., Medford, 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: If you’re a jazz lover or you’ve just always wanted to get better acquainted with this genre of music, this is a great opportunity. Denis DiBlasio/Brian Betz Duo will perform. According to his Website, “Brian Betz is a guitarist, composer, and educator who resides in the Philadelphia Metro Area, performing throughout the USA with many different musical artists” and DiBlasio heads up the jazz program at Rowan University. Writers Of The Harlem Renaissance Panel Discussion, Saturday, Camden County Library, Camden, 2:00 p.m.

Why Go: A panel will discuss the works of Langston Hughes, Jessie Faust and other writers from the Harlem Renaissance, a movement which saw significant social and cultural changes for African Americans and ushered in one of the most glorious eras in American literature. Mangia: The Substance, Sustenance and Social Significance of Food, Saturday, Camden County College-William G. Rohrer Center, Cherry Hill, 9:30 a.m.

Why Go: Sign up now for this five week mini-course, which will delve into the impact of food on various aspects of our lives including our culture, history, politics and spiritual identity. The course will begin this Saturday, and continue on February 11th, 18th, 25th and March 3rd.

How Much: $25 for the course

Geocaching: High-Tech Hide and Seek, Saturday, West Deptford Free Public Library-420 Crown Point Rd., West Deptford, 1:00 p.m.

Why Go: This may or may not fall into the category of “you learn something new every day” depending on your age and interest in high tech gaming. Cynthia Lambert will present a talk on Geocaching, a game of high-tech hide and seek. Learn about the basics including lingo and equipment used. Refreshments will be served after the talk.
